For over 50 years, Bronstein Van Veen LLC  has been one of New York City's premier family law practices.  Founded in 1947 by Eli Bronstein and Henry Van Veen, the firm became known for its expertise in family law matters in the early 1950s. Peter Bronstein joined the firm in 1968 and in 1973 the firm became Bronstein Van Veen & Bronstein.  The firm established its reputation as specializing in family law matters when Eli Bronstein argued a seminal case in the Court of Appeals on the issue of conflict of laws in international matrimonial cases.  Subsequently, Eli and Peter Bronstein each tried cases and argued appeals in a variety of issues arising out of marital and family relationships.  Eli Bronstein passed away in 1979 and since that time Peter has been in charge of the firm.

Peter has been the Chair of the Family Law Section of the New York State Bar Association and an active writer and commentator on matrimonial issues. A founder of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, he has served on its Board of Governors as well as in leadership positions in other bar related organizations. More importantly, Peter is a practicing lawyer who has settled and tried numerous significant cases. He is listed in Best Lawyers in America and has been featured in New York Magazine as one of the preeminent matrimonial attorneys in New York.  He has the highest (AV) rating in Martindale Hubbell.

The firm enjoys a reputation for being particularly expert at addressing complex financial issues arising in the divorce context, having represented numerous clients who either own or are married to owners of substantial businesses, are part of families with significant assets, or are entrepreneurs, bankers, professionals, artists or entertainers where an ability to understand valuation and business issues is an important attribute for the family lawyer.

Additionally, Peter has successfully tried numerous custody cases representing both men and women and including one where custody was awarded to a blind father and another where a 72 year old man was awarded custody of two girls aged 8 and 10.

Our support staff is headed by office manager Barbara Hall who is always available to lend a calm word.

Rather than spreading our resources thinly, the firm has made a conscious decision to keep the volume of cases limited to matters that warrant our concentrated efforts. We are deeply committed to our highly specialized area of practice and to the limited number of clients we undertake to represent.
